Recently I posted about discovering that my son's character toothbrush contained lead and how sick I felt over possibly harming Little Guy. Brushing With Poison
I was completely horrified that a major company would paint a product that goes into the mouth with lead. So I headed out into the world searching for a safe solution.
What I found was the Preserve toothbrush made by Recycline. The brush is made out of recycled yogurt cups. The other big bonus with this toothbrush company is that when you are done with the brush and case the company will send you a mailing pouch to return the them. Your old brush will be recycled into a new plastic products. Everybody wins!
The friendly people at Recycline http://www.recycline.com/ agreed to mail 10 brushes out to me to give away to my loyal readers for FREE! That's right. Free!
Each winner will receive one child's toothbrush and one adult's toothbrush.
Here is the skinny;
1. Post a comment "anonymously" with your email address if you are not a blogger.
2. OR post a comment if you are a blogger
3. OR send me an email in my "complete profile" section.
4. US residents only please.
5. I will chose the winners on Tuesday, January 8th
Thank you to the friendly people at Recycline and to my readers!

Oh, cool! Your blog was linked to a thread on simple living blogs that was linked to a thread about simple living in 2008 on MDC. I'm annettemarie there. Happy New Year!
Anettamarie~
So glad you found me!
I'm trying to get my MDC username changed to GruppieGirl. Hopefully it will be changed soon.
Best of luck with the toothbrush giveaway.
I'm off to check-out your blog...
Cool giveaway :)
Ooh! Ooh! Please sign me up! I'd love to try an eco-friendly toothbrush!
Hi there. I love Preserve toothbrushes. I don't need to be in the drawing, as I already have a bunch and highly recommend them.
One thing, however, I should point out about your description. These toothbrushes do not actually get recycled into new toothbrushes. That is the downside of any kind of plastic recycling. They actually get recycled into lawn furniture and decking material. So there really is no closing of the loop, it's a one-way downcycle.
I do appreciate that Recycline is using materials that already exist to slow our need for virgin plastic. But the yogurt company will continue to create brand new containers made from new plastic to package their yogurt unless we encourage them to find alternative materials.
I found a very easy way to make yogurt at home, without even needing a yogurt maker. I wrote about it a few days ago here:
http://www.fakeplasticfish.com/2007/12/plastic-free-yogurt-well-almost-plus.html
Making yogurt this way, we can avoid new plastic containers in the first place, since recycling of plastic is actually downcycling.
Great blog. I look forward to reading more.
Fake Plastic Fish~The recycling loop and it's shortfalls in regards to plastics still boggles my mind. I will change my post. Thanks for commenting!
Also, I will check-out your yogurt recipe. It sounds tough after seeing all of those shiny plastic cups in the food store, but I've heard from others that it can be really easy to do.
found you from mdc too! great giveaway! um, my blog is so way out of date from before kids so don't even bother ;)
I want to win! The kids one I'll give to my nephew and the adult, ahem, I might just want to use myself.
Thanks for having a fun give away!
and ps. is it not ironic how people come out of the woodwork to comment when there is something to win? :)
ps. what is mdc?
Wow, pretty cool! My son is due for a new toothbrush too! Count me in - themommyspot(at)gmail(dot)com
Thats a pretty cool concept for toothbrushes! How strange that those other ones were painted with lead paint. Yuck!
Count me in! I'd love to try a new toothbrush!
MDC stands for Mothering.com. Mothering is a natural family magazine with a great message board.
Like anything else, some of it I agree with and some of it I don't.
Overally, Mothering is a great place for parents!
I'm afraid I don't live in the US, I'm in Canada. But perhaps I could PayPal you the shipping costs? I'm also an MDC mama and can't believe I've never heard of these!
Tonight is your last chance to throw your name into the ring for the toothbrush giveaway. Thank you to everyone who commented and emailed!
Midlife Traveler, you make a good arguement for opening the giveaway to Canadian residents. I can figure out how to send packages abroad if your name gets drawn.
